Health & Safety Training - Family and Community

Red Cross first aid, CPR and AED programs are available for any age group and can be tailored to the needs of specific groups and individuals. Whether you work with children, want training for employees, are a professional rescuer, or simply want to know how to help in an emergency, the American Red Cross has a program for you.

CPR for the Schools & Community


(9 hours) includes First Aid Basics, Adult CPR, and Infant and Child CPR. The course components can be taken individually or in any combination. $65

Infant and Child CPR
(5 hours)

Designed for childcare providers, teachers, parents and others who care for children, this course teaches how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies and how to use the EMS system effectively. Participants take home a refresher skills card as well as information about preventing injuries. This course applies to infants and children up to 8 years. Infant CPR is also available separately as a 3 1/2 hour course that applies to infants up to 12 months; Child CPR (4 hours) is available separately and applies to children age 1 to 12 years. $55

CPR Recertification (3 hours)

Must have a current certification to attend this class. All skills will be reviewed and tested. $30-$45 Depending on CPR Level
* Note CPR for the Professional Rescuer Recertification’s Need to have a pocket mask with them or an extra $15.00 Charge will be incurred

Babysitter’s Training Course
(6 hours)

Learn what you need to know and what every parent wants in a responsible babysitter! Designed for 11- to 15-year olds, the course can help you interview for a babysitting job, choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games, perform first aid, learn diapering and feeding techniques, handle bedtime issues, and learn tips for having a safe babysitting experience. $50

First Aid for Children Today (F.A.C.T.)

The F.A.C.T. Critter Clan Family of multicultural animal characters leads children on a path of discovery. Kids ages 5-8 learn about ways to be aware of dangers, how to prevent them, and how to respond to them if necessary.

Basic Aid Training (B.A.T.
)

Introduces 8-12 year-olds to the emergency action steps, check, call, care and to first aid procedures. An activity book with puzzles and games teaches children how to prevent injuries and what to do in an emergency.

Pet First Aid
(3 hours)

This is a handy reference guide for cat and dog emergencies. Created by the American Red Cross and The Humane Society of the United States, Pet First Aid provides assistance to people whose pets are ill or injured.

First Aid - Responding to Emergencies


Available through many local colleges and universities. The course uses lecture, discussion and simulated emergency situations to deliver information on recognizing and caring for many different types of emergencies.

Sport Safety Training


Teaches coaches how to prevent, prepare for, and respond to sports-related injuries and emergencies. Suitable for coaches working with any level of athletics, from children to adults.

Health & Safety Training - Professional Rescuers

Our professional rescuer courses are designed for people who have a job-related duty to respond in an emergency. This includes nurses, law enforcement and EMS personnel, fire fighters, business and industry response teams, lifeguards, flight attendants, and others who must take action in emergency situations.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (8 hours)


Teaches a variety of skills including one- and two-rescuer CPR, use of resuscitation masks and bag-valve masks for ventilating victims, and how to respond in special rescue situations such as drowning. Participants learn the importance of AEDs, and how to use an AED properly. $75

Emergency Response


A comprehensive course designed for training first responders. The course follows the 1995 US DOT First Responder National Standard Curriculum and meets ECC Guidelines.

Oxygen Administration


Laypersons and professional rescuers can learn when and how to use supplemental oxygen and breathing devices. Professional rescuers also learn advanced skills in airway management.

Blood Borne Pathogens


A two-hour training module for employers and employees who, while on the job, may be exposed to blood or other body fluids that could cause infection. Employers can offer this program as part of their compliance with OSHA regulations. Available in English and Spanish.

Are you 15 or older and looking for a great summer job or a challenging career? American Red Cross Life guarding is the best place to start! Life guarding puts you in an exciting position, working as part of a team to help people safely enjoy the water. You could save a life too!

Life guarding will help you develop skills and experience that will be valued by colleges and future employers. It's a great way to demonstrate what you can offer. Colleges and employers look for applicants who can deal effectively with people, who have a take charge attitude and who are willing to work to develop new skills.

What You Will Learn- American Red Cross training makes learning fun and easy. Through classroom learning and hands-on practice, you'll learn:

Surveillance skills to help you recognize and prevent injuries
Rescue skills - in the water and on land
First aid training and professional rescuer CPR - to help you prepare for any emergency
Professional lifeguard responsibilities like interacting with the public and addressing uncooperative patrons

Infant and Preschool Aquatic Program


If your child is between 6-months and 5-years old, this program can help develop swimming readiness by teaching children to have fun in the water. Through guided practice sessions, children learn skills such as water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating, underwater exploration, and more.

Longfellow’s WHALE Tales

Make water safety for 5- to 12-year olds fun and easy to learn! Longfellow, the animated whale, appears throughout lesson plans, color posters, worksheets, activities, and a video to teach about safe behavior in and around water.

GuardStart


Life guarding Tomorrow Help 11- to 14-year olds get a successful jump start into Red Cross life guarding!

Community Water Safety


Stay safe in pools and other water environments including waterparks, lakes, rivers, and oceans. Learn about hazards to watch for, how to prevent drowning and injury, and how to rescue yourself and others if a problem does arise.

Home Pool Safety


"It Only Takes a Minute" Families can use this compelling, 20-minute video to learn how to safely enjoy their home pools.

Water: The Deceptive Power


You'll develop a healthy respect for oceans, lakes, and rivers after viewing this 30-minute, documentary-style video. It uses real-life situations to teach about skill assessment, high risk water activities, and injury prevention whenever you swim in natural waterways.

American Red Cross programs for your workplace provide the latest in lifesaving and safety instruction. Build the program that works for your business using our modular curriculum.

Choose one of our core courses, Workplace Training: Standard First Aid or Adult CPR/Automated External Defibrillation (AED). Then add a supplemental module such as Ergonomics; Slips, Trips, and Falls; Back Injury Prevention; or Workplace Violence Awareness. Standard First Aid (5 hours)


Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. Standard First Aid is also available in a 6 1/2 hour course with AED training included. $60

Adult CPR/AED (4 hours)


Hands on skills-training for adult CPR and AED prepare participants to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies. $50

Adult CPR (3 hours)


Learn how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults. $45

AED Essentials (2 hours)


Individuals currently certified in Adult CPR learn how to safely use an AED to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. $35

Injury Control Modules (1 hour each
)

Focusing on common causes of worksite injuries and key health risks, these one-hour awareness-level modules highlight risks and promote prevention. Self-assessments help employees recognize risky habits. Demonstrations and lively discussions reinforce practical prevention tips. Modules include: Ergonomics; Slips, Trips and Falls; Back Injury Prevention; Workplace Violence Awareness; Managing Stress; and Your Heart Matters. $15 each
